Arkham October

October is, of course, the month of Halloween. Most of us associate Halloween with pumpkins, trick or treating and ghouls and zombies, but here at Tabletop Game Shop Burnley we are going to delve into the Lovecraftian Arkham Horror Files.

The Arkham Horror Files are a collection of games and products from Fantasy Flight Games such as Arkham Horror the Boardgame and Mansions of Madness. The idea for October is that, as well as the usual gaming, we will celebrate the beauty (and horrors) of the Arkham games.

Enter the Mythos

The boundaries between worlds have drawn perilously thin…

Arkham Horror: The Card Game is a cooperative Living Card Game® set amid a backdrop of Lovecraftian horror. As the Ancient Ones seek entry to our world, one to two investigators (or up to four with two Core Sets) work to unravel arcane mysteries and conspiracies.

Their efforts determine not only the course of your game, but carry forward throughout whole campaigns, challenging them to overcome their personal demons even as Arkham Horror: The Card Game blurs the distinction between the card game and roleplaying experiences.

Every Thursday throughout October come and join us for Arkham Horror the Card Game. Bring along your investigator decks and play through a scenario or two (we have two decks at the shop which can be borrowed on a first come, first served basis).

Each week we will have a scenario set up and ready to play or if you'd like to play a specific scenario then bring along your scenario and monster cards too!

We'll play these scenarios as individual games rather than a campaign so if you miss the first week you're still able to jump in and play.

Don't worry if you don't know how to play, we can teach you the basics before the game.

Arrange & Play

There's more than just Arkham Horror the Card Game in the Arkham Horror Files.

Several of the Burnley regulars have the other games and are looking for players! Use our Community pages and groups to arrange games with others. So if you own any of the Arkham games then let us know in the Burnley Arkham Month event. If you're looking to play some of the Arkham games then keep a look out for games being arranged.

Arkham Horror the Boardgame

Designed for one to eight players, Arkham Horror is a cooperative adventure game of survival, horror, and investigation. A terrible creature from beyond time and space—an Ancient One—is awakening, roused by dimensional gates that open across the city. Players take on the role of investigators, each with a unique backstory, abilities, and equipment. Joining forces, the investigators must secure the city, encountering its haunted and mysterious locations before the Ancient One awakens. If the Ancient One awakens and defeats the players in the final battle, all of Arkham is doomed.

Elder Sign

Elder Sign is a fast-paced, cooperative dice game of supernatural intrigue for one to eight players by Richard Launius and Kevin Wilson, the designers of Arkham Horror. Players take the roles of investigators racing against time to stave off the imminent return of the Ancient Ones. Armed with cards for tools, allies, and occult knowledge, investigators must put their sanity and stamina to the test as they adventure to locate Elder Signs, the eldritch symbols used to seal away the Ancient Ones and win the game.

Eldritch Horror

Eldritch Horror is a cooperative game for one to eight players, based on the fiction of H.P. Lovecraft and inspired by the classic board game Arkham Horror. In Eldritch Horror, investigators travel the globe in an urgent quest to save the world from a diabolical, omnipotent Ancient One. With four different Ancient Ones, twelve investigators, numerous monsters, and hundreds of possible encounters, every game provides an unique and epic adventure.

Mansions of Madness 2nd edition

Fight for your life in Mansions of Madness Second Edition, the app-assisted horror game inspired by the works of H.P. Lovecraft. From the makers of Eldritch Horror, this fully cooperative game takes you and up to four other players on a harrowing adventure through the dark and desolate halls and alleyways of Arkham. Much like the original Mansions of Madness game, the second edition offers a number of thrilling and confounding scenarios, each with a unique and unpredictable map, intricate puzzles, and bloodthirsty monsters.

So come along every Thursday throughout October for Arkham Horror the Card Game scenarios starting at 7pm. Steel your nerves, arm yourself, and be sure to consult your most arcane tomes. The boundaries that guard our world from the other realms of existence are growing thin, and all manner of strange and eerie adventures await you in Arkham October!
